CB3 Tour Driver

Dave Pelz’s short game concept. For the creators, the ultimate dream is for their product or theory to make its way to the PGA Tour, either in a top player’s repertoire or in his bag. For Tour Edge fairway woods, the dream came true as the clubs found themselves in the skilled hands of such players as Luke Donald, David Duval, Brian Gay and Ryan Moore. And, now, the company hopes for the same fate for its new CB3 driver.
Tour Edge has chosen to go counter to the recent trend in club-making philosophy that’s been defined by a “bigger is better” approach. (Thanks to technological advances, it has become possible to manufacture light-weight clubs with huge hitting surfaces.) Instead, Tour Edge has gone back to a more classic, smaller head club style.
The CB3 Tour 3-wood is almost a throwback to those 3-woods of yesteryear. It has a smaller and sleeker profile than a lot of today’s 3-woods, but nonetheless still has the thin-face technology that produces longer distances with a more forgiving sweet spot. The club feels great in the hand, and has a wonderful balance that helps you keep track of the clubface during the swing. The CB3 simply doesn’t feel like you are holding a modified driver, but rather maintains the integrity of a fairway wood.
The driver’s head measures at a mere 430 cubic centimeters, a step-down from the maximum allowable 460cc, which has become the standard for many manufacturers. Based on what Tour Edge describes as a unique manufacturing process, the club combines a one-piece beta titanium face with a heavier steel-sole plate. They are bonded together through a special non-welding process which, the company claims, will create a more solid feel. Tour Edge guarantees longer distances with the club. The driver is designed to produce a lower ball spin rate, with a lower trajectory, a combination the company describes as being preferred by professional golfers.
The CB3 Tour driver has a suggested retail price of $349, and the CB3 Tour 3-wood sells for $299.
