Casa Carrillo Ships Pledge Purple
The highly acclaimed Pledge series from Casa Carrillo is getting a commemorative limited edition called Pledge Purple which is on its way to retailers today, and it features an extra-aged wrapper.
Made in the Dominican Republic at the Casa Carrillo factory, Pledge made a big splash in 2020 when the Prequel size was named the Cigar of the Year, scoring an astonishing 98 points. Its original blend showcased a dark Cuban-seed wrapper grown by Dunn & Foster in Connecticut. The wrapper for the new Purple is not only the same tobacco varietal, but actually comes from the same crop used for the original Pledge. (Brand owner Ernesto Perez-Carrillo says he set aside some bales for further aging.)
Internally, Pledge Purple is different. Rather than an Ecuadoran binder, Purple’s is Mexican. And while the filler is still all Nicaraguan, this blend has been adjusted to consists of tobacco from Estelí, Condega and Ometepe. It comes in one size, a toro measuring 6 inches by 54 ring gauge and has a suggested retail price of $18 each. Only 3,500 10-count boxes are being released.
