America’s Semiquincentennial is fast approaching. The United States will celebrate its 250th anniversary on July 4, and General Cigar Co. is acknowledging the landmark event with a special version of CAO America. The new cigar is named CAO America 250th Anniversary and it's a box-pressed reinterpretation of CAO’s patriotic cigar, made with only American tobaccos. The new smoke is slated to begin shipping nationwide on May 4.

CAO

“CAO has built its reputation on exploring tobaccos from around the world,” says Cory Beardsley, brand manager for CAO. “With America 250th, we focused on what can be achieved using tobacco grown right here in the U.S. It’s a cigar that stays true to what made the original America stand out, while bringing a new level of precision to the blend.”

CAO America 250th Anniversary measures 5 1/2 inches by 55 ring gauge and comes in a single box-pressed size called Robusto. The cigar is an American puro, rolled only with U.S.-grown tobaccos, which is rather unusual in the premium cigar world. Like all CAO America cigars, it’s made with two wrapper leaves: a contrast of dark broadleaf tobacco against a lighter, spiral pinstripe of Connecticut shade that creates a barber-pole effect. Inside, the cigar features what General calls a “U.S. Havana Connecticut” binder and a filler blend of “broadleaf and Pennsylvania tobaccos.”

CAO

The original CAO America debuted in 2007. It consists of two wrappers but is made of a far more international blend—Brazilian binder and filler from the Dominican Republic, Italy, Nicaragua and the United States.

CAO America 250th Anniversary is produced at the STG Estelí factory in Nicaragua. The cigars have a suggested retail price of $9.99 each and will arrive in boxes of 10. While billed as a limited edition, production numbers have not been released.
