Aurora Releasing Maduro 107

Aurora Releasing Maduro 107

The Aurora 107 blend is taking a dark turn with a new maduro release that will be hitting shelves this month.

La Aurora has been in business for more than a century—110 years to be exact—and released the 107 three years ago to commemorate that milestone. The blend has averaged more than 88 points in Cigar Aficionado and Cigar Insider taste tests since then, recently netting 90 points for the Gran 107 in December 2012.

"Our goal was to build on the success of the original 107," said Guillermo León, president of La Aurora. "We wanted the blend to be able to stand on its own and at the same time remain true to the cigar that celebrated an important milestone in our history."

The maduro version of the blend contains the same mixture of Dominican and Nicaraguan filler tobaccos surrounded by a Dominican Corojo binder. But while the original is finished with an Ecuadoran wrapper leaf, the maduro version is completed by a Connecticut broadleaf wrapper.

The cigars were released exclusively to Tobacconist Association of America members at last month's convention, and they will be offered to the larger group of International Premium Cigar and Pipe Retailers Association members starting in July at the IPCPR trade show in Las Vegas.

The blend is available in four sizes for the release: Corona at 5 1/2 inches by 43 ring, Robusto at 4 1/2 by 50, Toro at 5 1/2 by 54 and Belicoso at 6 1/4 by 52. Prices range from $6.65 to $8.80 per cigar. They are already shipping and could reach some stores this week.
