Since its debut in 2003, La Aroma de Cuba has grown steadily, with seven different iterations on the market. Now, brand owner Ashton Distributors Inc. has added an eighth. Called Habano Reserve, boxes of the new, limited-production cigar will not be shipping to retailers until this summer, but consumers can get a sneak peek via a new sampler pack that is shipping now.

Like the rest of the La Aroma de Cuba lines, Habano Reserve is produced by the Garcia family at the My Father Cigars S.A. factory in Estelí, Nicaragua, but this one will be made in fewer quantities than the others. The blend consists of a reddish Ecuador Habano Rosado cover leaf atop Nicaraguan binder and filler leaves hailing from farms owned by the Garcias in Estelí, Jalapa and Namanji. According to Ashton, every leaf of tobacco used in Habano Reserve underwent a “triple fermentation process” before being rolled entubado style and topped with a Cuban-style triple-seam cap.

There’s only one size in this line, and it’s called the Monarch, a 6-by-52 toro. According to the company, the Habano Reserve is intended to be medium-to-full-bodied.

For the time being, it will be available as part of Ashton’s new La Aroma de Cuba “92-93 Rated” sampler pack, which features five Monarchs presented in three different La Aroma de Cuba blends that have rated 92 or 93 points by Cigar Aficionado. The sampler contains two Monarchs from the original La Aroma de Cuba, two of the Connecticut blend and one Habano Reserve. The suggested retail price is $39.99.

La Aroma de Cuba

The initial production of the La Aroma de Cuba Habano Reserve Monarch is limited to 3,000 boxes of 25 cigars. Sathya Levin of Ashton said the cigar would be made and shipped in batches. “We plan on making La Aroma de Cuba Habano Reserve an exclusive, limited ongoing production that ships to select retailers in boxes one to two times annually.”

Each cigar has a suggested retail price of $9.50.
