American Airlines Sale On Cuba Flights
American Airlines has announced that it will continue until July 11 a sales promotion for flights to Cuba. The flights begin September 11, and tickets are now being sold through November 15, 2016.
The destination cities in Cuba are Cienfuegos, Holguín, Santa Clara, Varadero and Camagüey from U.S. departure cities Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Dallas-Fort Worth, Houston, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, Orlando, Philadelphia, San Francisco, Tampa and Washington D.C. All flights from each departure city connect or transit through Miami International Airport.
Since the announcement of the original departure in early June, American added Charlotte and Newark to the cities from which you can depart for Cuba. American has been selling tickets for flights to Cuba since June 13.
During this promotion, round-trip flights range from $160 for departures from Boston and New York to $398 for flights leaving from Los Angeles or San Francisco. The prices are exclusive of taxes and fees and require either a three-day minimum stay or an overnight Sunday stay. (With taxes, the prices range from $262 to $500). On AA.com, ticket prices on certain future departure dates, with apparently heavier interest from travelers, cost more than the announced round-trip price.
American Airlines noted that all passengers are required to fulfill the requirement of getting a visa for travel to Cuba from the U.S. government, under one of the 12 categories for permitted visits covered by the People-to-People program.
For now, neither American Airlines, nor the other airlines which received permission to fly to Cuba—Frontier, JetBlue, Silver, Southwest and Sun Country—will be operating scheduled flights to Havana. Interest in the Havana routes was so high that the U.S. government says it is reviewing those requests before granting any airline the right to fly to the Cuban capital.
