Altadis Eyes U.S. Market With VegaFina Wonders Collection And A New Size
The VegaFina brand is quite popular in Europe, especially Spain, but the brand isn’t as strong in the United States. Altadis U.S.A. wants to change that. In an effort to expand VegaFina’s U.S. market share, Altadis will be releasing a few new products, some of which are exclusive to the United States. The most eye-catching is called the Wonders Collection, a line of smokes based on the Seven Wonders of the World.
Each year, a different Wonder will be released with a unique blend and presentation.
The first cigar of the series is named after Petra, an ancient city with carved sandstone cliffs dating back to approximately 300 B.C. It’s located in modern-day southern Jordan. Wonders Collection Petra is made in one size: a pigtailed Churchill called Nabateos, measuring 7 inches by 48 ring gauge. The dimensions were chosen to evoke the towering columns of the ancient city. Petra is rolled with a Mexican Criollo wrapper that Altadis says is 10 years old. Inside is a Java Indonesian binder and fillers from Colombia, Nicaragua and the Dominican Republic.
Each Nabateos has a suggested retail price of $15 and comes in an illustrated 14-count box. It’s a global release with only 750 boxes allocated for the United States.
Made exclusively for the U.S. market, the core VegaFina Classic and VegaFina 1998 lines will be offered in tins that hold five 4-by-42 petit coronas called Panatelas ($40). In addition, there will also be “Fresh Packs,” another U.S.-market exclusive intended to introduce the brand to American consumers. Inside are two 6-by-50 Toros from the Classic line, and two 6-by-54 Toros from the 1998 line. Suggested retail pricing is $32 per pack.
Both the VegaFina Classic and 1998 lines are also being relaunched with updated packaging. VegaFina was introduced in the United States in 2007. VegaFina 1998 came much later in 2020.
VegaFina cigars are produced in the Dominican Republic at the Tabacalera de Garcia factory in La Romana.
