Alec Bradley’s Filthy Hooligan And Shamrock Return For 2023
Need a green cigar to pair with your green beer this St. Patrick’s Day? Alec Bradley Cigar Co. is starting the celebration a little early. Next week, the company will be releasing the Black Market Filthy Hooligan and Filthy Hooligan Shamrock, a pair of seasonal smokes covered in barber-pole-style wrappers, one of which is a leaf of bright-green candela.
Both limited-edition cigars come in the same 6-inch-by-50-ring-gauge Toro, and both are made with an Ecuador Sumatra binder. The fillers are from Panama and Honduras, but the difference is in the wrappers. The Filthy Hooligan Barber Pole Toro ($11.50) features two wrappers—one, a Nicaraguan Habano and the other, Honduran candela for a green contrast. The Filthy Hooligan Shamrock ($13.65) takes it a step further with three wrappers: a brown Nicaraguan Habano, a green Honduran candela and a very dark brown Nicaraguan Habano maduro.
“We only use choice candela,” second generation cigarmaker Bradley Rubin said to Cigar Aficionado. “Barber Pole and Shamrock remain limited editions because the bright green tobacco we use needs to be consistent every year. . . a little-known fact: Shamrock was actually my first project at Alec Bradley.”
Production is limited to 2,000 boxes of 24 cigars for the Barber Pole Toro, 1,500 boxes of 10 for the Shamrock.
This marks the 11th release of Filthy Hooligan, though the eighth release of the barber-pole versions (the first three years were all-candela), and the fifth release of the Shamrock. Both cigars are made by the Plasencias at the Tabacos de Oriente factory in Danlí, Honduras.
