Alec Bradley Chunk Goes Light
Sequels tend to go darker than the original but Alec Bradley is doing just the opposite for its Chunk series. Last year, Scandinavian Tobacco Group introduced Chunk Maduro, a line of short, fat smokes cloaked in a dark wrapper. The new Chunk Shade sports a much lighter cover leaf, and started shipping to retailers earlier this month.
“Chunk Shade is a fun and approachable cigar that rounds out the Chunk series in a big way,” says Bradley Rubin, brand ambassador for Alec Bradley. “Fans love the short, wide format of Maduro, and with Shade we’re giving them the same bold shape but with a smooth, mellow profile that’s perfect for relaxing any time.”
Made in Honduras at STG’s HATSA factory, Chunk Shade is covered in a light Connecticut-seed wrapper grown in Honduras under shade (typically, shade wrappers are grown in the United States or Ecuador). Its Connecticut broadleaf binder holds together a filler blend Nicaraguan, Honduran and Dominican tobacco. The company says that these are intended to be mild to medium-bodied cigars.
Chunk Shade is offered in the same three hefty, budget-friendly sizes as the core Chunk Maduro line: XL, measuring 4 inches by 60 ring gauge ($5.99); 3XL, at 4 by 66 ($7.69); and the ultra-thick 4XL, measuring 4 by 80 ($8.49). The first two sizes come in boxes of 20, but the 4XL is packaged in boxes of 18.
Alec Bradley cigars are marketed and distributed through Forged Cigar Co., a subsidiary of Scandinavian Tobacco Group that handles some of STG's premium cigar portfolio.
