A Tatuaje Gets Two New Wrappers
Like a chef taking a familiar recipe and substituting one of the ingredients to see how it changes the flavor, Tatuaje Cigars’ Pete Johnson continues his experimentation on how different wrappers can affect cigars in his portfolio. At the PCA trade show, held earlier this month, he showed off previews of the Tuxtla and Corojo editions of 7th Corona Gorda, a size from his Tatuaje Seleccion de Cazador line, commonly known as Brown Label. The new cigars are expected to ship to retailers in late May or early June.
Seleccion de Cazador is one of the core lines in Tatuaje’s portfolio, and it dates back to 2003. The first six sizes in the line were produced in Miami, but the 7th Corona Gorda was the first to be produced in Nicaragua.
The original Seleccion de Cazador blend consists of an Ecuador Habano cover leaf over Nicaraguan filler. Tuxtla is cloaked in a dark Mexican San Andrés wrapper, while the Corojo edition has a Nicaraguan wrapper grown by the Garcia family of My Father Cigars, Johnson’s longtime cigarmaking partner. Both cigars measure 5 5/8 inches long by 46 ring gauge, have a suggested retail price of $9.50 and will ship in boxes of 21. The cigars are rolled at My Father Cigars S.A.
This marks the fourth and fifth iterations of the 7th Corona Gorda after the Ecuador Sumatra-wrapped Capa Especial and Connecticut broadleaf-cloaked Reserva.
