A Slender Cuban Por Larrañaga Just For Switzerland

For the Swiss, this is more than just a skinny cigar—it’s an act of resistance

Store managers at La Casa del Habano shops across Switzerland put the new Regional Edition Por Larrañaga Intemporales on their shelves today and it’s one of the skinnier smokes in the Cuban portfolio. The cigar was rolled in Cuba’s Laguito No. 2 factory format, a slender, pigtailed size that measures 6 inches by 38 ring gauge. At a time when cigars with heavy ring gauges are in vogue, Swiss Habanos distributor Intertabak AG calls this cigar “an act of elegant resistance.”

The name Intemporales editorializes on itself a bit, as it translates to “intemporal” or “timeless” in Spanish. Intertabak explains: “The name chosen for this edition is far from incidental. It evokes that which crosses eras without submitting to them—that which resists fashion and the ephemeral . . . . A slender, almost ascetic format in its proportions, it belongs to the great tradition of fine Cuban cigars.”

Each 25-count box of Por Larrañaga Intemporales has a suggested retail price of 750 Swiss francs (about $927), or 30 Swiss francs apiece, which works out to approximately $37. Only 6,000 numbered boxes are being produced.

Por Larrañaga

The new Por Larrañaga shares its dimensions with more common, regular-production cigars like the Cohiba Coronas Especiales and Montecristo Especiales No. 2, but this wouldn’t be the first time that a Regional Edition came in this size. Followers of the Regional program might recall the Punch ManTua for Italy, the La Gloria Cubana Medaille D’Or Especial for Belgium and Luxembourg and the Juan Lopez Finos for The Netherlands.

While the Por Larrañaga Intemporales is now available at La Casa del Habanos shops, it won’t be released to Habanos Specialists or other Swiss retailers until June 30.

“By choosing Por Larrañaga for this Édición Regional, Intertabak AG sends a clear message to its network of specialists: Switzerland is not only one of the most important markets for Habanos in the world, it is also one of the most discerning and most knowledgeable.”
