A Regional Edition, 109-Style Quai D’Orsay Just For Switzerland
Though a few years behind schedule, the Quai d’Orsay Sélection Royale is finally being released next week. It’s a Regional Edition Cuban cigar for the Swiss market and was originally intended for a 2020 release. The cigar is also meant to commemorate the 25th anniversary of Intertabak A.G., Switzerland’s official distributor of Cuban cigars.
Measuring 7 1/4 inches long by 50 ring gauge, the Sélection Royale is rolled with a “109”-style head. Also referred to as campana (bell-shaped) head, or cabeza tumbada (drop head), the 109-style heads are similar to belicosos, though not as pointy. You see them on Edmundo Dantes Conde 109 cigars and on the newly-announced Partagás Línea Maestra.
The cigars come in slide-lid cabinets of 50 with a decorative outer box that depicts outlines of popular Swiss attractions such as the Matterhorn and the Chapel Bridge in Lucerne. Only 1,600 boxes are being released. This is the first time that a Regional Edition Quai d’Orsay has been made for Switzerland, and the third time that the country has released a Regional in the 109 format.
The cigars will have a suggested retail price of 1,500 Swiss Francs per box ($1,623) which comes out to 30 Swiss Francs per cigar ($32.50). They’ll be available on March 28 in La Casa del Habano shops before the rest of the country gets them on April 4.
