A Montecristo Humidor That Looks To The Night Sky
The lighting was low in the humidor pavilion and a crowd started to gather in the small space. A large, white-and-gold box under plexiglass sat on a pedestal in the center. Soon, the plexiglass was lifted to better reveal the Montecristo “Follow The Stars” Tribute Humidor. Once the lid was opened, it became clear why the room was so dark—the inner lid lit up as though you were looking into a starry night.
This was one of the main attractions of Altadis U.S.A.’s booth during the PCA trade show in New Orleans last weekend. Developed in collaboration with Hernandez Humidors, the new collector’s piece is powered by motion-activated LEDs that illuminate the inner lid as soon as it’s opened. Light show aside, the humidor comes with 50 box-pressed Montecristo “Follow The Stars” figurados made in Nicaragua by A.J. Fernandez. According to Altadis, these cigars (6 inches by 55 ring gauge) have been aged for five years. There’s also a hidden, two-cigar electroplated ashtray nestled inside.
Only 20 Montecristo “Follow The Stars” Tribute Humidors are being released, each with a suggested retail price of $15,000. Owners will have the option to purchase a 50-count refill twice within a 12-month period for $7,500 per refill. The humidors are expected to ship in June.
“This artful humidor piece is a tribute to everything Montecristo represents—heritage, craftsmanship and innovation,” says Oliver Hyams, vice president of marketing for Altadis U.S.A. “We set out to create something that honors the brand’s legacy while delivering a completely new and unforgettable experience. There is truly nothing like it.”
