A La Gloria Cubana With A Personal Touch
When perusing the shelves at the local tobacconist, cigar fans know little, if anything at all, about the actual rollers behind their favorite smokes. Scandinavian Tobacco Group wants to give credit where credit is due. The company has released a new, limited-edition La Gloria Cubana cigar which gives a peek behind the curtain by including the signatures of the people who made it. Called La Gloria Cubana Gran Legado, the cigars began shipping to retailers earlier this month.
“La Gloria Cubana Gran Legado confirms that our people matter as much as our tobacco. These artisans are family, and we work together to make each high-quality cigar with pride and passion,” says La Gloria Cubana brand manager Corey Beardsley.
Made at El Credito (a gallery within the General Cigar Dominicana factory) in the Dominican Republic, Gran Legado is produced only by rollers with a minimum of 15 years experience. It comes in one size, a double-tapered Perfecto measuring an imposing 7 1/4 inches long by 62 ring gauge, and has a suggested retail price of $14.99 each. The blend is supposed to be medium- to full-bodied and consists of a dark Connecticut broadleaf wrapper, a Nicaraguan binder and mix of Dominican Nicaraguan filler.
To further carry the theme of celebrating cigar rollers, the inner lid of each 10-count box features a photo of two pairs of hands—a buncher's and roller's—making a cigar. Only 1,900 boxes are being released.
La Gloria Cubana Gran Legado is distributed by Forged Cigar Co., a subsidiary of Scandinavian Tobacco Group.
