A Cuban Juan Lopez Exclusively For France
Literature and Cuban cigars have long had a relationship (think Romeo and Juliet or The Count of Monte Cristo). France has joined the literary cigar circle with a new Regional Edition Juan Lopez cigar made especially for the French market. It’s called the Dom Juan 1622, and it’s named after Molière’s five-act comedy of the same name, as well as the author’s birth year.
The Juan Lopez Dom Juan 1622 measures 5 7/8 inches by 54 ring gauge, which is referred to as Geniales in Cuban cigar factories. It’s the same size as the Hoyo de Monterrey Le Hoyo de San Juan and is a format often used in Cuba’s Regional Edition program. Each secondary band reads “Exclusiva Francia” to indicate its regional status.
These heavy-ring-gauge cigars retail for 32 euros each (about $33), or 320 euros per 10-count box, which comes out to around $330. Only 10,000 boxes are being produced, all of which are numbered.
According to France’s Habanos distributor Coprova, the Dom Juan 1622 is intended to be medium in strength. It’s technically the Regional Edition cigar selected for 2022, but came to market late (though the French La Gloria Cubana Podium was on schedule for 2024). Like all Regional Editions, this cigar is not offered in the standard Habanos range.
