2025 Infiniti QX80
As it enters its 35th year in the luxury market, Infiniti is a brand in search of a path to stand out from competitors like Lexus, Mercedes-Benz and BMW. The 2025 Infiniti QX80 may be just what’s needed. The three-row SUV boasts distinctive styling, plenty of room, lavish details, gobs of power and an array of impressive high-tech features.
Infiniti represents the upscale arm of Nissan, and the new QX80 shares its body-on-frame platform with the next-generation Nissan Armada, which also gets a complete makeover for 2025. The Infiniti package has its own welcome upgrades, such as its electronically adjustable air suspension, more power and a more elegantly appointed interior.
The concept is described in Japanese as miyabi, a layered, flowing approach that melds into a harmonious whole. Along with hand-stitched leathers and wood veneer with inlaid metal accents come twin 14.3-inch digital displays. Among other things, the screens display multiple camera views, including one effectively simulating what a driver would “see” through the hood, such as a curb or off-road obstacle. A third, nine-inch touchscreen operates climate control and other functions. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, and QX80 uses Google software for infotainment. The Klipsch Reference Premier audio system pumps out 1,200 watts powering 24 speakers. Individual speakers in headrests make it seem like every seat is in the sweet spot for perfect audio. The Klipsch system handles phone calls with a setting that allows them to be heard only on the driver’s headrest speakers while passengers continue to enjoy the music.
One big surprise was the lack of a V-8. It won’t be missed. The new 3.5-liter, twin-turbo V-6 pumps out 450 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque. That’s up 50 hp and more than 100 lb-ft compared with the old eight-banger. The V-6 is paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission. Buyers have a choice of either rear- or all-wheel-drive. The powertrain delivers more than enough muscle, whether for a jackrabbit start or to tow up to 8,500 pounds.
The 2025 Infiniti QX80 doesn’t come cheap, starting at $82,450 and topping out at more than $110,000. But if the market for such high-line products is small, the new SUV should finally help Infiniti shine its halo.
