11-Year-Old Forbidden X Cigars Now In Stores

Ever wish you could smoke an aged Fuente Fuente OpusX, but can't seem to find one? Your search has just become a bit easier, as a shipment of 11-year-old Fuente Fuente Forbidden X cigars began hitting tobacconists last week.

The collection is called The OpusX Story and it's distributed by Prometheus International Inc., which is owned by Keith Park. The fall 2017 release includes four special Fuente Fuente Forbidden X cigars that were rolled in 2006 and have been aging ever since inside Tabacalera A. Fuente Cia.

The Fuente Fuente Forbidden X blend is much like a core OpusX smoke, save for one important distinction. Forbidden X uses the same Dominican tobaccos grown at Chateau de la Fuente for the legendary OpusX blend. With Forbidden X, though, Carlos "Carlito" Fuente Jr., president of Tabacalera A. Fuente y Cia., ages the tobaccos for a time in barrels that once were used to age Calvados, an apple brandy from France's Normandy region.

The OpusX Story Twentieth Anniversary

The four Forbidden X cigars included in The OpusX story are: Fuente Fuente Forbidden X Robusto, which measures 5 1/4 inches by 50 ring gauge; Fuente Fuente Forbidden X Double Robusto, 5 3/4 by 52; and two sticks of Fuente Fuente Forbidden X Toro, 6 by 50. The box carries a suggest retail price of $165.

The cigars are housed inside a limited-edition collector's box, each one individually numbered, that commemorates the 20th anniversary of Fuente Fuente OpusX, which was actually in 2015. The box also includes a certificate of authenticity along with a copy of the book 20 Years of Fuente Fuente OpusX: Interview with Carlos "Carlito" Fuente.

Only 1,250 boxes were shipped last week to authorized Fuente Aged Selection dealers, and Park says that this is the final batch of cigars from 2006. The first shipment of The OpusX Story with the Forbidden X cigars from 2006 hit stores last October when 1,000 boxes were shipped. Earlier this year in May, 750 more boxes were sent to retailers. Next year, The OpusX Story is scheduled to ship in the spring and fall, but the cigars will be from a different year of production.
