S.T. Dupont Megajet
Every cigar aficionado needs a deep bench when it comes to lighters. You’ll want your share of utility players, simple lighters that are reliable and no nonsense, nothing to brag about but they get the job done. Then there are the seasoned and strong veterans, lighters that can take a pounding and fire up a smoke on a golf course, or sit in your tackle box until needed. For fancier affairs, there are the elegant models, the ones suitable for a dressy cigar dinner. When a bit of spiff is required, S.T. Dupont has a new lighter that fits the bill.
The Megajet comes in four styles: all black, all chrome, or our preferred looks which have a red or black body with a shiny and eye-grabbing chrome top. The chrome truly pops against the black or red lacquer options, with the red evocative of a candied apple, looking a bit like the hood of a Ferrari. Ignition begins with the long push-button trigger that runs nearly the entire height of the (nearly) three-inch-tall lighter. The flame is intriguing and flat, 0.75 inches wide, looking a bit like the flames that come from a fancy outdoor fireplace.
The lighter has just the right proportions—it feels solid in the hand, but isn’t too large or heavy to carry in a pocket. U.S. distributor Coles of London says the flame comes in at 2,000 degrees Fahrenheit, and is windproof (up to pretty heavy gusts), but this is the kind of piece you’ll likely want to keep indoors. Also, keep an eye on it when loaning it to friends.
