My Favorite Cigar
Patrick Nichols • Hotelier • Partagás Lusitania
The current favorite cigar of Patrick Nichols, president/CEO of the Venetian Resort Las Vegas, is the Partagás Lusitania, at 7 5/8 inches long, with a ring gauge of 49. And it’s not just the flavor he savors. “It’s about a two-and-a-half-hour cigar that never seems to go out,” he says. “So, that makes it perfect for golf. You’re enjoying a nice walk in a beautiful setting and the Partagás provides a good distraction when things are not going great with your game.”
When the Palazzo at the Venetian Resort opened a new high-limit room and found itself with a sliver of extra space, Nichols knew exactly what to do with it. “The Blue Room, as we affectionately call it, is a 1,214-square-foot nook that really didn’t have a purpose. So, we turned it into a beautiful lounge, with premium wines on display and private humidors.”
The Blue Room is where Nichols might repair after finishing a project, such as the recent $1.5 billion refresh of the Venetian and Palazzo. When it’s time for a celebratory smoke, his humidor is stocked.
“Many . . . are gifts from customers. I’ll light up the perfect one and shoot the person a picture of me smoking it. That’s a way of saying thanks for the gift and letting them know what I am celebrating.”
