My Favorite Cigar
Saverio R. Scheri III • Casino Executive • Davidoff Double R
Saverio R. Scheri III, COO of Agua Caliente Casinos in the Palm Springs area of California, has enjoyed cigars long enough that he can remember smoking at Yankee Stadium and over a meal at The Oak Room in the Plaza Hotel. But when it came to naming the smoking room at the flagship venue, he delved 3,000 years deeper in history to come up with the Pívat Cigar Lounge. It’s a word from the language of the casinos’ owners, the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians, and it means “to smoke tobacco.” Scheri sometimes uses the expansive room for private and exclusive player events.
He says that cigar smoking is conducive to the flow of ideas. When time allows, he’ll light a Davidoff Double R from the Dominican Republic, which is his favorite.
“I love to have great cigars in amazing locations,” Scheri says, ticking off such sites as Venice’s Grand Canal and Villa d’Este on the shores of Lake Como, where he was married and had a smoke that is etched in his memory. Then, of course, there is the meal-with-a-cigar experience, which he can easily enjoy by ordering a cut to be delivered from The Steakhouse just steps away from the Pívat lounge.
