My Favorite Cigar
Marlon Wayans • Actor & Comedian • Partagás Serie D No. 4
Marlon Wayans was drawn to cigars early in his acting career. “Back in the ’90s, I used to golf and smoke cigars just to stay out of trouble. I was a young brother making money and I didn’t want to be a young brother making dumb mistakes.”
The 53-year-old comedian enjoys Liga Privada No. 9 and a variety of Cuban cigars. “I have a huge Cuban collection,” Wayans says. “Everything from Bolivar to Partagás Serie D.”
On the golf course, he says Serie D No. 4 is one of his favorites to light up, but he also smokes plenty of his own Liga Tridentes, especially after his stand-up comedy performances (he’s currently on his “Wild Child” tour). As a co-owner of Liga Tridente, he takes his smokes on the road for post-show events at local cigar lounges. “Every city I go to, I always find a cigar lounge and I do a ‘cut and light’ . . . that’s how we’ve grown our company.”
Wayans indulges in cigars while making movies, too. During the filming of his new comedy Scary Movie (the sixth installment in the series), Wayans smoked puros with his stunt crew. “We’d go after lunch. We’d sit around, we’d smoke. We’d meet up after work and we’d go to The Red Phone Booth in Atlanta and we’d kick it.”
Scary Movie hits theaters nationwide on June 5th.
