Better late than never. Marchese Piero Antinori has spent most of his life turning Italian grapes into some of the most extraordinary, prestigious wines in existence, including highly collectible bottles such as Solaia and Tignanello, the world’s first “Super Tuscan.” As a 25th-generation steward of his family’s 600-year-old legacy, Antinori is largely responsible for turning Tuscany into the well-respected appellation it is today.
But he didn’t develop an appreciation for premium cigars until later in life. The 87-year-old recently visited the Fuente factory in the Dominican Republic and instantly fell in love with cigar culture. Naturally, he was drawn to the similarities between winemaking and tobacco. “After having visited the Arturo Fuente operation I was truly impressed and I discovered a fascinating world with many similarities to our activity. Consequently, the night after my visit, I decided to give it a try and I have understood the charm and the pleasure it can give.” Fuente set him on the right path and now Antinori considers the Rosado Sungrown Magnum R Vitola “Fifty-Two” his favorite cigar.
