Atailor at the top of his profession is a true craftsman. But to do what Mark Cho does requires one to be an artist, an entrepreneur and an impresario of sorts, especially in the evolving world of menswear. The London-raised 42-year-old is cofounder of The Armoury, a bespoke haberdashery with locations in New York and Hong Kong. His talents extend to sourcing the world’s finest fabrics, enlisting the industry’s top tailors and bringing them together for discerning customers in search of sartorial greatness.
It’s no surprise that Cho, as an agent of elevated taste, is drawn to cigars, particularly Davidoff No. 2s from the Dominican Republic and Quai d’Orsay No. 54s, which are rolled in Cuba.
“It takes weeks to go through all the fabrics, curate the designs, refine the designs and plan the next season,” Cho says. “Smoking helps me stay focused and anchored to the task at hand.” He starts his day with a coffee and a cigar, often smoking with clients in the afternoon and evening as well. “I’ve had so many engaging conversations with friends, colleagues and clients over a cigar and I would go as far as saying I consider cigars more important to my life than a drink or even a meal.”
