My Favorite Cigar
Mike Ditka • NFL Legend
Camacho Triple Maduro Robusto
It comes as no surprise that Mike Ditka, who redefined the tight-end position in the NFL, likes his cigars strong. He puffs Camacho Triple Maduro Robustos, but he smokes a wide variety of brands and sizes, so long as they have a kick. “I will give a try and smoke just about any kind. Half of the time, I don’t know the name but I always prefer a good full-bodied cigar,” he says. “I smoke a cigar every day. I smoke them in the car, I smoke them at home and my club.”
Ditka was the No. 1 pick of the Chicago Bears in 1961, and when he retired from playing after the 1972 season he ranked second among tight ends in career receptions. He won a Super Bowl as a player with Dallas (Super Bowl VI, when he caught a touchdown pass from Roger Staubach), an assistant coach with Dallas (XII) and as head coach of the Bears (Super Bowl XX, when Chicago crushed New England). In 1986, he was enshrined in the NFL Hall of Fame.
Cigars have been a part of his life for about three decades. “I just like smoking them, it’s something I have done for about 30 years now so I really like it.”
