Lotus Jaws Cutter Review—A Cut Above The Rest
When The Lotus Group debuted its new Jaws cutter at this year's International Premium Cigar & Pipe Retailers trade show, it seemed like yet another cigar accessories gimmick. For you see the edges of the Jaws' blades are not plain like other cutters, but serrated, like a bread knife.
After testing the Jaws cutter by snipping the caps off numerous cigars, though, it's fair to say that the serrated blades are no scheme, but an example of novel design. The saw-toothed edges of the Jaws consistently cut with precision and a noticeable smoothness. Additionally, the tobacco bits and oils that can stick to plain-edge blades don't seem to accumulate on the serrated blades of the Jaws.
The double-guillotine Jaws cutter is solidly built with all-metal housing, which adds heft but feels nice in one's hand. As stated above, the action of the Jaws cutter is incredibly smooth, and the oversized finger holes are another positive, as they make it easier for people with large fingers to grip the cutter. The opening of the Jaws is also wide enough to snip cigars up to 62 ring gauge.
Perhaps the best feature of the Jaws cutter is its price, which is a modest $29.95. You'd be hard-pressed to find a more solid cutter in that range.
