Colibri Heritage Series

Colibri Heritage Series

The Rubik’s Cube has captured the fascination—and ire—of many curious minds across the world in the past 50 years. Its simple design—a cube made up of smaller, colored cubes—lures would-be problem solvers, only to summarily crush their hopes. If you admire the look, but can do without the brain teasing, consider the Heritage series from the cigar accessory manufacturer Colibri. Led by its desktop lighter, the set of four smoking accessories bears a striking resemblance to the Rubik’s Cube, but is meant for relaxation, not frustration.

The Heritage series includes a lighter, cutter, ashtray and humidor. Unlike its multicolored inspiration, the accessories come in solid, matte finishes: black, red, charcoal, blue, green and orange. The Heritage Cube Desk Lighter ($165) has a straightforward, dual operation with both a double-torch flame and a soft flame. On opposing sides of the cube, the middle tiles serve as as ignition buttons: click one and torch flames shoot from the top, click the other and you trigger the soft flame. Both flame heights can be adjusted from the bottom. The lighter is best suited for a tabletop and is sturdy enough to stand steadily.

The Heritage Cube Desk Cutter shares the same price, motif and dimensions, though it’s a bit heavier. Available at your disposal are a V-cut, a straight cut and three different punch cut capabilities. The four vertical sides of the cube each present a different alternative for readying your smoke. The top of the cube functions as a spring-loaded release. When you press it, the V and straight cuts open up and the three punches pop out on the sides like cannons from a ship. A “trap door” opens up to discard the clipped caps. The cutter can service cigars up to a 60 ring gauge.

The Heritage Cube Ashtray ($165) is quite imposing. The length and width are essentially standard for an ashtray, at just about 6 inches. But its sides stand 3 1/2 inches tall, creating a formidable wall to protect your fallen ash.

The Heritage Cube Humidor ($395) fills out the collection. The base is 9.8 inches by 9.8 inches and, with an 8-inch height, it has capacity for roughly 60 to 80 cigars. The box includes a digital hygrometer as well as a movable humidification system.
