A cult cigar of the early aughts, OneOff disappeared for a while, making a brief, rather undignified act as a catalog brand. In 2018, OneOff was purchased and restored (one could even say rescued) by Dion Giolito of Illusione Cigars. He’s done a splendid job, especially with the OneOff Black Toro, a size that was released last summer. The brand used to be called Black & Tan but was recently shortened to simply Black. Giolito says OneOff Black is made with a tobacco type practically uncultivated in Nicaragua, but says no more. Less of a secret is the cigar’s brilliant, sweet-and-spicy array of marzipan, white pepper, leather and hearty grains.
