Quesada and Regius Cigars Part Ways

For the past six years, Quesada Cigars has been distributing Regius Cigars, but at the end of next month, that partnership will be no more. Today, Quesada Cigars announced that the two companies will be ending their distribution deal on April 30.

"We are sad to see this partnership end," said Akhil Kapacee, of Regius Cigars, in a press release. "I am always thankful to Manuel Quesada and the Quesada family, Terence Reilly, Gladys and Juan in Miami, who have worked very hard."

Kapacee added via email that the split happened due to "business reasons." As of now, Kapacee said that he is "currently evaluating options" on who will be distributing his cigars in the future. Kapacee did mention that he still plans to release two new brands next month, a sun grown and a maduro.

"We at Quesada are very proud of the massive growth of the Regius brand since the time we took over distribution, and we wish Akhil the best of luck as he takes Regius in a new direction," said Terence Reilly of Quesada Cigars.

Regius Cigars has been selling cigars since 2010, but didn't penetrate the U.S. market until six years ago, when Kapacee partnered with Quesada Cigars, located in the Dominican Republic. Regius is known for its Regius Exclusivo U.S.A. line as well as its Black Label brands, which are made at Plasencia Cigars in Estelí, Nicaragua. (Click here to see Regius ratings and tasting notes.)

Quesada Cigars, which used to make the Regius White Label, is known for making Fonseca, Casa Magna, Oktoberfest and Reserva Privada.
