ProCigar Festival 2014 Registration Is Open
The dates for the 2014 ProCigar Festival, the Dominican Republic's largest annual cigar celebration, have been set and registration is open.
Next year's festival will take place from February 16-21 and will offer not only loads of premium cigar smoking, but the chance to learn about cigars through factory tours and educational seminars. Tours will include visiting Tabacalera de García in La Romana where Dominican Montecristo, Romeo y Julieta and H. Upmanns are produced.
Guests will also get the chance to tour Santiago de los Caballeros, about 160 miles from La Romana, where they will be able to participate in tobacco field tours offered by General Cigar, Davidoff, Manufactura de Tabacos S.A. (MATASA), La Aurora and Corporación Cigar Export. For the first time in the festival's history, tours of Tabacalera La Alianza, La Flor Dominicana and the Fuente Foundation will also be offered.
Additionally, festival goers can also just be tourists, enjoying island activities like golf, snorkeling and ocean sailing. This year, attendees will also be able to tour Cayo Arena Island, participate in a charity poker tournament and partake in the nightly gala dinners that end each day of the festival.
ProCigar, now in its seventh year, was formed in 1992 and consists of eight companies in the Dominican Republic that make cigars, and all of the member companies take part in the festival. There is General Cigar Dominicana, the factory that produces such cigars as Macanudo, La Gloria Cubana and Partagas; Tabacalera de Garcia Ltd., the makers of Montecristo, Romeo y Julieta and H. Upmann; Tabadom Holding Inc., the company that produces Davidoff and Avo cigars; Tabacalera A. Fuente y Cia., maker of Fuente cigars; Manufactura de Tabacos S.A. (MATASA), which makes the Quesada and Fonseca brands; La Aurora S.A., maker of Guillermo León and Aurora cigars; Tabaquisa S.A., where Juan Clemente cigars are made and Corporacion Cigar Export, the maker of Augusto Reyes and other cigars.
