Nicaraguan Cigar Festival Dates Announced for 2020
Puro Sabor is back on. After canceling 2019's Nicaraguan Cigar Festival due to political unrest, the Nicaraguan Chamber of Tobacco (CNT) has announced that the 2020 Puro Sabor will be held from January 21 to 25 in Estelí, Nicaragua.
Nicaragua’s turmoil started in April last year, when the Ortega Administration announced sweeping changes to the country’s social security system, angering the public and inspiring massive protests across the country. Clashes between the government, paramilitary supporters and protesters resulted in more than 325 deaths, according to various news reports. Now that the violence has largely subsided, CNT has deemed Nicaragua safe enough for a cigar festival.
The organization is still finalizing details of Puro Sabor 2020. Tickets are not on sale yet, and an official schedule still remains to be established.
Puro Sabor is a celebration of Nicaraguan tobacco and cigarmaking. The festival typicaly includes factory tours, cigar tastings, gala dinners and meetings with the country's largest producers of premium cigars.
