Powerball, Good Life Style

Powerball, Good Life Style

Just in case you needed a reminder that money makes the world go round, Powerball hysteria has officially gripped the United States. And why shouldn't it? If there's one thing that binds the common people of America together it's our shared ability to fantasize about living the life of a billionaire.

For the first time ever, a North American lottery jackpot has soared north of a billion dollars, sitting comfortably at an estimated $1.5 billion. As most know, if someone does manage to win tonight's Powerball jackpot, he or she won't be taking home the full $1.5 billion. According to USAMega.com, if the winner opts for the lump sum cash payout, he or she will receive roughly $651 million after federal taxes. Then, depending on which state the winner calls home, he or she will need to give a little more to the government. Still, the lowest payout would be an estimated $615 million.

That's still a pretty hefty chunk of money. Enough to certainly change one's life.

While the odds of winning are an estimated 292 million to 1, that hasn't stopped people from buying their tickets, as it's estimated that more than a billion tickets will be sold before tonight's drawing. (Apparently the American public ascribes to the Han Solo mindset when it comes to these things.)

All this talk of instant wealth got me thinking: What would a cigar aficionado buy if he won the Powerball jackpot? A cigar bar? A lifetime supply of Cohiba Behikes?

Here's a list of cigar-and good-life-related things one could blow the entire $615 winnings on, should they feel the need.

Number of Cohiba Behike BHK 56s (most expensive cigar Cigar Aficionado rated in 2015): 8,493,302 individual sticks, or roughy 849,330 boxes

Zino Platinum Crown Series Double Grandes (most expensive non-Cuban rated in 2015): 17,826,087 individual sticks, or 1,782,609 boxes

Gurkha Maharajas: 307,500 individual sticks, or 30,750 boxes

Space Adventures Circumlunar Flight: 2 tickets (Only one ticket is available on the inaugural flight. Sorry, honey, but this one's just for me.)

Barrels of Jack Daniel's: 51,250

Super Bowl 50 End Zone Tickets: 152,567 (Bonus: No lines!)

Brizard & Co. Silo Humidor: 34,166 (Where else will you store all those BHK 56s?)

Rolls-Royce Phantom Series IIs: 1,545
