Davidoff Cigars has launched Puro Dominicano, a three-size cigar line rolled with an all-Dominican tobacco blend. The regular-production offering is part of the company’s robust Black Band Collection, a series that includes Davidoff Nicaragua, Yamasá and Escurio. The cigars arrived at retailers last month. 

The new line features aged tobaccos from six different growing regions in the Dominican Republic: a wrapper from Yamasá, a binder from Martin Garcia and fillers from Villa González, Piloto, Navarrete and Mao. According to Davidoff, the tobaccos in the mix have a combined age of 32 years.

Puro Dominicano is available in three formats: Short Robusto, measuring 4 1/2 inches by 52 ring gauge; Corona Larga, 5 7/8 by 44; and Perfecto, 5 1/2 by 50. Suggested retail prices range from $19.80 to $25.20 per cigar.

Davidoff says that Puro Dominicano is a full-bodied blend with a complex, sweet-and-spicy character. Creamy, peppery and bready notes abound, along with touches of dark chocolate, dried fruit and earth. As the cigar burns, elements of oak wood and leather bring balance and complexity.

Thematically, Puro Dominicano takes inspiration from Dominican amber, an organic gemstone formed from the resin of an extinct tree. Davidoff sees a parallel between the skilled artisans that polish and shape Dominican amber into fine jewelry, and its own master blenders and rollers who craft high-end cigars from Dominican tobacco. The amber-yellow secondary band on Puro Dominicano is a tribute to this connection.

Davidoff Puro Dominicano is available in five-packs and 12-count wooden boxes. The cigars are made at the Cigars Davidoff factory in the Dominican Republic. The line is the fourth regular-production addition to Davidoff’s Black Band Collection. Cigars in the Black Band Collection are billed as more powerful than the smokes in the company’s White Band Collection.
