Luke Bryan’s path to country music stardom has been paved with his share of sorrow— as well as some fine cigars

It’s a clear but not particularly hot day in Austin, Texas, on a quiet street near Bouldin Creek. Luke Bryan grabs a three-pack of Davidoff Aniversario No. 3s from his bag, removes one from its tube and slices off its head. He takes the cedar strip from the container, cracks it into a makeshift spill, lights it with a torch, then puts the cedar to the foot of the cigar. Smoke begins to rise into the air. He’s a few hours away from going on stage for an iHeartCountry Festival, and his gleaming white smile seems a mile wide.
