Casa Carrillo La Historia Silk Returns With A Cause
La Historia Silk, a limited-production offshoot of Casa Carrillo’s core La Historia brand, is returning to market, this time with a charitable mission. The cigar was created last year by Lissette Perez-Carrillo, who runs the company with her father, Cigar Aficionado Hall-of-Famer Ernesto Perez-Carrillo. She noticed an increased female presence in the cigar world and released Silk last to address the growing market, but it’s not just a cigar for women. Now it’s back, and shipping to retailers now.
A portion of the proceeds for Silk will benefit the Miami chapter of Dress for Success, a non-profit organization that provides women assistance to re-enter the workforce. Services range from job interview preparation to providing donated business attire. Today, Dress for Success Miami has helped more than 40,000 women. The partnership was suggested by Andrea, Lissette’s 15-year-old niece (and daughter of Ernesto III).
Made in a single-size toro, La Historia Silk measures 6 inches by 52 ring gauge. Unlike the core line, which is box-pressed, Silk was rolled in the round. The blend features an Ecuador Habano wrapper from Quevedo, a Nicaraguan binder from Estelí and a four-country filler blend of tobacco from Nicaragua (Estelí), Pennsylvania (broadleaf), Mexico (San Andrés) and the Dominican Republic (La Canela).
Each Silk has a suggested retail price of $16.50. The cigars come in boxes of 10, and this year the company intends to produce approximately 2,500 boxes, or 25,000 cigars.
Last year, La Historia Silk earned 90 points in a blind tasting for Cigar Insider.
