Desktop Humidors From Cuba
It’s been said that Cuba is a natural humidor, a temperate, tropical country with a picture-perfect climate for cigars. Now, a line of desktop humidors that were made in Cuba have gone on sale in the United States, and the distributor claims they are quite legal for the American market.
Duyos Humidors are artistic, traditional desktop humidors handmade by artisans in Cuba using reclaimed wood from around the island. Some of that wood, they say, was used in antique Cuban furniture, or it came from homes and buildings up to 100 years in age.
The humidors have been brought to the U.S. market via cigarmaker David Blanco, of Blanco Cigar Co., who is of Cuban descent. He met Tania Duyos of Duyos Humidors through a friend, and says that he found that the company could legally import the humidors from Cuba.

Duyos Humidors range in size and style, many of them using Cuban imagery or symbols. The one we examined, called the Cathedral of Old Havana (75-count, $1,390), is adorned with the seal of Cuba, created by arranging various wooden carvings in different shapes, colors and styles. It’s lightweight, but well made. While it lacks the polish and fine detail work of a world-class humidor, it’s attractive. The inner lid is spartan, yet the humidification device is artfully disguised behind some cedar, with a simple analog hygrometer. The humidification device itself is simple, a plastic container with floral foam. It would work with distilled water, however we would recommend simply filing that space with Boveda humidification packets.
The pieces are attractive, distinctive and bring a bit of Cuba into your office, home or cigar room. They range in price from $700 to $3,200.
